    Heres a couple of German Artillery Shell Bases , cut off and made into Ashtrays , 1914 Berndorf and 1916 Krupps , I dont know what size shell they were but fairly large and wouldnt want to be on the receiving end of one .

    Its hard to say for sure without measurements but I would hazard a guess that these could be cut down cases for the German 77mm field gun, the shells of which were commonly known as "whizz- bangs".
