Illustrated is the A 19 17 stamp in my officers soft cap not spacing between 19 and 17. Also for reference a A 1918 stamp in the sleeve of an officers shoulder rank jacket, note smudging around the A.

The holes to the rear underside of the cap are for ventilation. Multiple vent holes were 'a la mode' on WW1 caps.

WW2 caps tended to be much less fussy driven by a more practical and material saving approach to kit and equipment.

The spacing between the date numbers would have been a concern to me if I had been interested in it, but you learn something new every day.

    Cheers,
    Steve.
