    WW1 British tragic letter from a sister to her borther sent on Oct 27th 1918 and returned to say her brother had been killed on 5th Nov 1918. Letter addressed to 200029 CQMS John Longstaff, 5th Battl. Durham Light Infantry. Along with three full packets of Woodbine Cigarettes plus a WW2 British song book.

    Sad to think he almost made it through...

    Imagine having that returned when you knew he was dead but worse if by the time she received the return the armistice was actually in place.

    Even harder to imagine is that it is not impossible in that period that the return of the letter was actually the first indication of his loss.
