    Very interesting.
Coming from a mining town and a family of miners and having been underground with my father and grandfather I understand the difficulties that those men faced. One thing I know from experience is that when you are underground and the lights go out you cannot see anything at all. You can hold your hand an inch from your face and it is not visible.
    Those men had great courage.

The Somme can be very rainy Dim but due to the chalk underground it is usually reasonably dry , the whole Somme area is covered by huge tunnel systems and in some of the other tunnels which have been explored by the locals not by proffesionals like this they have found some remarkably preserved items !!
