    Default Chinstrap Officer W SS

    Hello,

I offer pictures of a waffen ss officer chinstrap with its buttons, because I don't know what to think about it.
I am told that it is authentic but I prefer to put it on the forum.
Maybe you will tell me if it's original because I think it should not be easy to know ...
I took pictures with a UV lamp for clarification.
Thank you very much for your time.

    Cordially.

Maybe im wrong but I do not think that there is any differentiation between these officer's chinstraps. The wide and crudely made prongs on the buttons resemble the ones that are commonly encountered on post war visor caps.

Third Reich era cords normally were not reverse twist like these (\\\\\\). You want to check for metal inside the knot sliders instead of plastic. In your photos, the thread under the silver bullion seems to glow under UV light. These are not period IMO.

As stated above, there is no difference between officer's cords.

    Regards,
    Miguel.

    thank you for your expertise.

yes indeed there is below the big 2 square cords which shine, I can not know if they are plastic or metal.

I had a little my opinion on this chinstrap but as I have a lot of shortcomings in this area I preferred to switch it to authentication.

    Thanks again.

    cordially.

I think this is one of the post-war GDR cords - normally they were thinner, stiffer, longer and Z-wise twisted compared to original ones and had other features I can see here. There was the exeption to the rule (i. e. reverse twisted cords) every now and then, but I don't think this is one of these.
