    Default GEMPO Officer's Visor

After searching for one of these for years, one suddenly popped up on the WAF e-stand of all places. This is for an officer of the Schutzpolizei des Gemeinden, abbreviated Gempo (Municipal Police).

These guys policed towns that were too large to be policed by the Gendarmerie, and too small for the Schupo. (Generally, towns between 10,000 and 99,000 people). Their Truppenfarbe is Weinrot, in contrast to the green of the Schupo and the Orange of the Gendarmerie.

They were ordered to switch to the standard green of the Schupo in 1942 (although not all did). Further, many towns ended up being serviced by either the Gend or Schupo anyway, so not that many Gemeinde Officers existed, which accounts for their rarity.

Hat is an Erel, distributed by Eduard Sachs (which was a major Hoflieferant during the Kaiserzeit). Wool is Trikot, and has the half fold-over half sewn sweatband. It is a pre-war piece, and has a frosted officers eagle:

A wonderful cap, for the Schutzpolizei der Gemeinden (plural, possessive)

Congratulations and a very interesting variation of a Lubstein make.

And I notice the nice manner in which the Schweissleder is fitted, with the hand stitching in the rear half of the cap.

    grosser Sammlerglueck!

That is one very nice, and hard to come by cap. Well done.

Funny thing these police hats. I had one a few months ago with orange piping for Feldgedarmarie and for the life of me, I couldn't shift it. It was 100% un touched. Do you know what? after selling it, I had 5 people independently ask "if you get an orange piped one"........ect

    Makes me wonder sometimes

Anyway, that is one I could live with

Thanks for all the kind comments, guys--I am really happy with this one, and doubt I will ever have to "upgrade" it.

BTW, here is a Sachs stamping on a visor from the TR:
