I have seen these for sale, but have never seen an un-felted shako before. Otherwise, it looks OK to my untrained eye. The M43 is not of a colour shade I have seen (unless it is just the flash) and looks too new. Any thoughts?

I think the black shako's came out before the green type. It appears to be
in good to excellent condition. I don't know what is happening behind
the eagle's head though- maybe just the stitching on the cockade
    slot showing.

    The M43 is a fake/repro, IMO.........

Unfelted shako's were also used post war! The chin strap how ever doesn't seem to be of the same age as the shako!!

The seller is asking for 'offers', which I hate. What is a reasonable price for this shako? I see very nice ones on the Guild going for $800-$1100.

Post war shako's over here sell at 250 euro!
I also hate that "offer-game- thing", if it is a common thing as these are, I always reply that if he wants offers he should put it on ebay; and I move on!
He is the seller, he should tell you a price.

    Hi

I concur with Kris about the shako. You need to be careful because although the black shako or leather shako was used during the weimar period before the felt one came in during the TR period, the black shako was also used by police right upto the 1960's. So the chances are it may be post war.
It might have a chance but I would post it on the police forum to get some more views.

M43 looks sus on these photos IMO.

    good luck

$250 or less is probably a 'reasonable' price if the shako is indeed
a post-war type and you can't live without it. It's badge could
be ok, and they typically sell for $100-$145.

You've already researched how much genuine 3rd Reich era
versions sell for - I think I would walk away.........

Not worth even considering. Even without the possible post-war useage, the liner is shot and the chinstrap is not original to it. Is just good for parts. Save your money and pick up a decent wartime era piece. They aren't too hard to find and are very impressive to display.

I will take your advice and walk. I agree that the felt ones are much more impressive, and I have seen them on occasion at a reasonable price. If I was trying to sell a genuine example and get top $$ I would send close up pics to show what I had.
