As you know, early M40 caps are quite different from late examples.
it is impossible in such a thread to show such differences between them

Here is another early picture where the old meets the new...........

officer on horseback wearing the "new" officers field cap with his sword attached to his saddle and carrying what looks like the ww1 style gas mask.

    cheers

Heres a nice collection of some of the photos that were given to me when I purchased my „Winterschlacht im Osten 1941/42“ medal. Presumably of the previous owner of the medal?

Obergefreiter Walter Sander wearing his Schutzmütze

    Hello

I'm looking for information on an Obergefreiter Walter Sander, born in Braunschweig on February 12 1905, buried in the Recogne German war cemetery (Bastogne Belgium)

Based on local civilian sources he was executed in September 1944 for refusing to pledge allegiance to AH. His body was buried in an unmarked grave in the Bastogne civilian cemetery and was lost for 20 years before being discovered and moved to the Recogne German war cemetery (grave 18-289)

I know that I'm digging a very old post but but any information would be welcomed
