    Dear forum experts,

Two pictures which would really benefit from your views. I have no idea. But I am just starting to collect WWII items, I have been collecting stories for 20 years at D-Day, Normandy and beyond so it is all new to me. I really appreciate your views.

    Sincerely,
    Frank

    Hello--
What the hat is supposed to represent is an EM/NCO visor from KR5 (Kavallerie Regiment 5).
They used the Danziger totenkopf as a traditions badge in honor of the Imperial Leibhusaren Regiments 1 & 2.

Unfortunately, the hat you posted is a well-made fake, with no original parts.

    Here are some original examples:

    TK-Danziger Traditions-Badged WH Headgear
“Show me the regulation, and I’ll show you the exception.”

Here are various period photos of KR5 headgear in wear:

A stinker. Mr Mint is right as ever, and he has lots of nice, authentic cavalry caps with Traditionsabzeichen galore.

Dear Stonemint, thank you so muich for your expertise! The hat is being offered online as being 100% original and authentic! I really don’t understand how you can say that when you know it is fake. Anyways thank you again! Have a great Sunday!

Frank, glad to hear it--there is a lot of shared knowledge here you are not going to find on any other forum!

Default You guys are the best!

So true Stonemint, as I said before after collecting veteran stories for 20 years I now starting my own very small collection. So you will get tired from all if my questions pretty quick! ;-) So much fake out there .. with a novice like it is so hard to begin.
