Any pictures of stamps on the inside of the sweatband? IR 17 was also located in Hannover - so there could be a connection (see here: Infanterieregiment 17 - Lexikon der Wehrmacht)
-
It does not have a stamp. I was informed that as a private purchase cap it probably wouldn't as opposed to an issued cap. Sounds reasonable but one less way to authenticate the connection
-
Yes, it is a private purchase cap so it wouldn't have a unit property stamp. However, often they would have an inspection stamp "Geprüft" with the unit. That was to certify that a private article of uniform had been inspected by the unit chain of command for adherence to regulations and was approved for wear.
FWIW, the seller is a stand-up guy and has a return policy.

Al, I was looking at this one too, but it's out of my price range, good luck if you buy it !

Al, I would wait for one that has a Braunschweig distributor marking along with a TK w/ a septum.
This one will always be questioned by the masses if you have to sell at some point.

Thanks, I suppose i knew the answer but sometimes we try to convince ourselves otherwise. I'll keep looking

Here is an example of one that sold on a website for €700,00....
This should have been a obvious tampered with cap to anyone
No stamps, Mismatched insignia, Crowded insignia, Brunswick skull with no septum, evidence of extra holes
