The Afrikakorps used a great deal of British uniform items, including shorts, shirts and solar helmets. There is no reason why they shouldn’t re-utilise the field service cap..

I’m curious about one of your theories though.. What makes you think it was modified in Litzmannstadt?

    Interesting piece..

My theory of modified in Litzmannstadt it follows that British webbing was processed. German captured lot of British equimpment in Dunkirk and made Y straps ,pionier bag ,rucksack... in Litzmannstadt Getto.

My items made in Litzmannstadt with british webbing pieces.

Never seen one before, but I would go with the PoW theory.
