Wanted to show a few pics...I just got it last week from an auction. It's in overall good, used condition with no tears or moth nips. An early CW, maybe pre-war? Anyhow, there are plenty of these available for the same or less than my final bid. Add in the 20% vig + shipping, I coulda done better; no more auctions. Live & learn!
Nicely shaped CW cap, well done! Just two thoughts: the eagle doesn't seem original (to the cap) to me and I don't think this is an early CW, on the contrary, due to the interior (no more sweatshield, extremely thin leather [or ersatz?] sweatband) and the shape I rather think this to be a (late) war example. As always looking forward to the specialists' opinion.
The eagle is very flat, like the repros from India/Pakistan - I am no specialist for insignia but the originals were different IMO, see here e. g.: luftwaffe white top off visor
Should not be too difficult to get an original one and then you have the perfect cap.
It is sewn on and the eagle is what I was unsure of. Looking through all the LW off caps in the "Authentic Guide", configurations are extremely varied..tail up or down, different claws and contact with the swas, beak shape. It doesn't seem inappropriately flat and does have a glimmer that matches the cockade. I'll try to get better photos and I'm not against getting another if it's fake--good idea, ErWeSa. Appreciate the feedback..
