Another Danziger Skull

Article about: I've added another Danziger skull to my collection. I avoided the infamous Berlin "HortFunde" variety for the time being and concentrated on the "conventional" variants.

No problem Al, me too lol.. Going over yours and Stonemints threads, I think I counted over 25 varients now. Then when I think I've seen them all, another varient pops up, or a slightly different varient of said varient, its crazy!
For example, I just read through stonemints danziger thread again and learned there is actually 2 different marked ST@L danziger type skulls and they look very different. I was always under the impression there was only one. Guess I learned something new today!

Thanks Dan, I had noticed that image awhile ago and dismissed it as an anomaly. I thought maybe it was misshapen giving it that look but now I realize it looks quite different. The eyes are round and not oval and the overall skull looks "thinner" or "taller."
Here are my ST & L examples for a better comparison.

Nice addition Al, I've always wondered how they applied the silver finish on these skulls. Some of these that i own have the same splattering on the backside. I'm leaning towards them spraying the silver finish on at the time. Dipping the insignia would not give any of this on the backside.. Some also have the backside fully covered with the pins in silver.

Thanks Marten, I believe you are right in that various methods were used including painting them with silver wash. I do have different skulls with splattering like this in contrast to full silvered backs like these below.

I also recall Winkelman alluding to the fact that Overhoff skulls were painted in contrast to other cupal skulls that were plated.

    Default Berlin Hoard TK

My latest Tk is a common Berlin Hoard type I picked up at a good price. This one has the serrated prongs and a nice dark patina.
