Article about: Had a bit of spare shed time ( now that I've retired ) and started to look at a few relics that I've amassed over the years and started to wonder ....... Anyway, this is what an old hubcap,

    Thats the tricky balance Michael, finding one with enough holes and cracks for a good effect but not so rusty that it falls apart......

    The cracks and rust holes are the key with a lamp like this. Just like your photo. I'll find one some day. Just don't find them locally for sale so ebay is my main option. But as noted too expensive.
