    I do think that sums up the topic as a whole rather well.

    In any case, posting a thread by implication invites comments and opinion. Whilst in some cases that opinion is subjective when talking about a helmet or cap badge, with regards to other more potentially volatile artefacts such opinion is usually more objective and tends to become advice however it is phrased. Even when advanced by someone without technical qualifications it is likely worth noting.

    However, when that opinion is advanced by one with such qualifications it becomes rather more imperative or even peremptory. The fact that the finder experienced a physiological response to the find in the first instance should only serve to reinforce this point.

    Either way I think the debate within this thread has perhaps run it's course and we should perhaps all consider it a reminder that 'there are old detectorists and there are bold detectorists but there are no old bold detectorists'.
