Maybe it is interesting for counterfeiters. To get old Swiss ekms and turn them in Volkssturm ekms.

Good question, but the VS EM were, as Im told, a hoardfind.
These tags were found, bound together with an iron wire.

    Good evening
The use of a cheap rectangular "bakelite" ID tag existed already before the production of these Spremberg Volkssturm tags ..., but not in the German armed forces ...
The 1939 model Suisse Army tag was also made of a kind of bakelite. The personalia of the owner had to be written on it, not engraved.
Only in the fifty's, the Suisse army changed to steel oval tags.

Given that there is nothing officially documented about these Bakelite ekm being used in Germany and yet they were issued to the Swiss forces is it not possible that the Volkssturm story is just that? A ruse to market Swiss ekm as being TR?

That would, IMHO, hardly be the case because:
    - the VS tags are slightly bigger (1 mm)
    - the Suisse tags are mono-bloc, the VS tags show 3 layers of composite material. (Pressstoff)
    - Suisse tags are without exception clear/white, this is absolutely not the case with the VS tags
    - the "breaking line" on the VS tags is narrower than the one shown on the Suisse tags
