German Kia grave marker

Article about: Can anybody translate what it says on this grave marker? From St Vith area these were done by the US Graves registration for enemy soldiers that were Kia

    A very interesting thread, Thank you for posting. I take it that the markers were put on temporary grave markers. Once the bodies were reentered I take it that the ID markers shown were just disposed of.

    The information on these fallen soldiers is now held by the Bundesarchiv. These labels were discarded when the temporary markers were replaced by more permanent graves markers. On the American personnel examples the location of the grave is stamped as well. Sadly the German ones do not.

    Not really. The Bundesarchiv does not give this information unless you are next of kin of one
    of the fallen soldiers and have prove of this.

    The only other way is buying a erkennungsmarke that is complete with the matching soldbuch.
