help! opinion on ss dog tags puchased yesterday
Hi. Looking for help on 2 SS dog tags:
The first one is a lighter metal (aluminum ?) & has the following stamped in a straight line:
7. SS. PZ. J. BTL. 8
It is numbered 40, & has seperate O markings on their own.
The second is a heavier metal (steel ?) & has a more tarnished look to it.
It has the following in a straight line: 4.1./1. PZ.K. Helmer.
Above & below both words "PZ" is stamped ss.
It is numbered 887 & has the abbreviations LGT. & FRW. stamped independently on the outer corners as well as the letter O.
Any help would be appreciated !
Ps - these were reported dug up in the Czech republic near Pilsen in 2000

Gary,
Welcome to the forum! I hope you did not pay to much for the chance to learn about Fake SS tags.
Both of these are bad just based on the unit information and they have some other characteristics that are bad indicators.
First up 4.1./1. PZ. K. Helmer
It is not a unit of any kind.
LGT? means nothing, I cannot find a German military abbreviation for it, FRW is "foreign volunteer"
Next Tag:
Would translate to 7th Company SS Panzer Jager Battalion 8,
First red flag the numbers "7"and"8" should not be the same stamp set as the roll number "40".
Second problem that Company did not exist.
hope this helps.

I noticed on the note behind "7. SS. PZ. J. BTL. 8" that they identify the Unit as the 7th SS division. The 7th SS division did not have an 8th Panzer Jager Battalion.

And I see Czech language on the paper at the right side, what a shame :-(

Always better to ask for advice before buying.

Thanks everyone for your assistance! Im really bummed about my purchase, & by the way yes I did spend too much on the tags. To be honest it was my first time at a memoribilia show. I felt confident with my purchase because the seller has decades of experience collecting & was vouched for by another seller (who by tbe way recommended I post the tags online for authentification).
I am going to post another thread on Wehrmacht Awards just to get as many votes for or against the pieces before I contact the seller.
Thanks again so much

Gary, please post here again if the seller explains these. I have been collecting a long time but I certainly do not know everything. I am particularly interested in what units these are supposed to be and what the abbreviations are supposed to mean.
