    Most excellent.

Just now re-reading 'The Red Baron - Beyond The Legend' by Peter Kilduff and in the book it is mentioned (as other sources likewise state), that as the pilots depended so much on and put so muct trust in the vital ground crews and their vast competence, there was an informal tone between pilots (even highly decorated ' aces' as MvR) and their respective ground crews.

(Further more, who'd want to pee off the blokes maintaining your airplane engine and loading up your machine gun magazines!)

Sorry just re-read your post. Try the RAF Air Historical Branch, they should be able to help, if you google them it will bring up an email address.
