One of the key elements to price increase is ‘knowledge’. As books are published on a previously mysterious (and to many, uninteresting) subject, so an interest is created or nurtured..
For example, not so long ago, you could barely give away a Royal Navy uniform.. My friend, Martin Brayley, wrote his long-planned and outstanding book (based upon his outstanding collection and knowledge), and suddenly, everyone can find out what this stuff actually is.. A demand is created. Supply soon follows.
Dealers have some reference, as to what is rare or unusual, and collectors have a checklist; they can now work their way through ‘the book’ like a catalogue, ticking off the variations as they go.
This is very much a double-edged sword; On the one hand, it drives up the value of a collection. On the other, it slows down its growth.

Indeed the badges are all original wartime badges, but each appears to have a repro nut and damage.
Same poster has new ones up with the green background, all the nuts look cast.
