How to select a Soviet Medal (Bravery, merit, etc...)

Article about: I would like to ask a question destined to know how to select a Soviet medal. My first idea is that the oldest medal would always be the best, but I do not know to what extent I can be sure

    Is the serial mumber 1943111 ?
    I have seen some awards, which were allowed to be played with by children. They somewhat beaten.
    But this damage looks as quite persistent effort.

    Correct. Awarded to Private Vasily Ivanovich Kutseikin. I bought this in 2013 from a dealer in Bucharest.
