Impact test plates

Hi guys,

Thought it would be interesting to see the other side of ordnance so I picked this pair recently. They seem to be impact or armour test plates but what hit them and under what circumstances? They do 'fit' together so I believe it was one impact affecting both. It looks like a HESH strike but the size of the plates seem too small for a firing range.

Any suggestions?
