Re: Mills confusion?
Hello Spotter,
It's similar to your No 5 except for the baseplug. Can you give me any info about the No 5, I'm not clued up on them? Many thanks for your help,
Cheers,

Re: Mills confusion?
hello navyman can you post a photo of your baseplug and are there any makers marks on the grenade casting at all,Im finding the dates confusing on the base plug as they dont match up with this type of grenade, not original to it ??,ive just tried the base plug from my 36 in my no5 and it does screw in but is very loose unlike the original brass no5 base plug

Re: Mills confusion?
Hello Spotter,
Thanks for info. Pics not very good as base plug marks are very faint, difficult to read without mag. glass.
Reads; No36 M II
SEG 9/42
I agree, this can't be a base plug for Mk5 or Mk 23 as they were obsolete by 1918 ?
There are no apparent marks on the heavily pitted body and the base plug has never seemed 'right'. The body does have small traces of black paint/lacquer, around the top. Inside base plug just has single broad arrow.
Thanks for your interest, I'd like to solve this one.
Cheers,
navyman.

Re: Mills confusion?
I would just buy a correct style base plug and filler screw for it,you can get repro filler hole screws here page5
and plenty of brass base plugs here on specialist auctions SpecialistAuctions.com - moderated specialist & collectors online auctions
keep checking the auction site as no5 centre tubes ,levers ,strikers n springs sometimes get listed.

Re: Mills confusion?
Hi Navyman,
As spotter says it is a No5, i have compared it to mine, you have a nice grnd there. Be a nice display piece when you finish it,
good ones are getting hard to find.
