Its a French chassepot bayonet. It looks like it was chrome plated.
You will find the arsenal and the date on the spine of the blade.

As pointed out it's been plated, which may indicate it was used as a parade bayonet or for a guard of honour. Nice find, only a philistine would cut up any type of antique.

they make nice "wall hangers" for decoration around the house, den , fireplace, bar , man cave.
