Chinese Nationalist Daggers - Questions

I picked up one Chinese dagger from a Vet's estate several years ago and today I added another one. However they are different from each other and I was wondering if someone could explain some of the differences between the two. Primarily one has Nationalist Suns and one doesn't. One has a green grip and the other an off-white/yellow. One has a retention button and ricasso, but the other has neither. Are they both military? Do the differences mean something like they do on Japanese pieces? Thank you ABN
