Made in Germany should means post 1991 production.
The "Kappmesser, Fliegendes Personal, mit Lederscheide" according to TL 7340-0010 was probably used until the mid-1990s.
In other words:
The knife, manufactured by Rudolf Weber jr., (Logo "Hirschkrone"), replaced the "PUMA Auto-Messer", (in service since 1967), in 1984 and was issued in the Bundeswehr till the mid of the 90´s.
This also explains why MADE IN GERMANY is not embossed on the back of all Weber knife sheaths.
Hi Andy,
Due to current circumstances, I would like to bring this thread back from obscurity today.
I looked at the page you linked and came to the conclusion that this is a knife from the "Hirschkrone" brand which is stored in a PUMA "Auto-Messer" sheath, (wie Lederscheide zum Puma-Allzweckmesser Nr. 6390, jedoch mit bundeswehreigentümlichen Änderungen / adapted according to Bundeswehr-specific changes)
It is possible that the knife and the sheath were swapped during service in the Bundeswehr (the "Kappmesser, Fliegendes Personal mit Lederscheide" from the manufacturer Rudolf Weber Jr. / "Hirschkrone" was certainly used in parallel with the "AUTO-MESSER" manufactured by "PUMA" previously used by the BW).
The fact is that this knife model from both manufacturers was sold on the civilian market and was also issued to the Bundeswehr.
To my knowledge, not all of the knives that were delivered to the Bundeswehr were etched with "BUND".
