    Default "overhauled" M4 bayonet

    Hi, mates,

Received this U.S.M4 bayonet , manufactured by IMPERIAL.
"First Type Butt Plate", manufactured by "Standard Products".

In combination with the scabbard, manufactured by VIZ, (made in the late 60´s ?), this, particular, bayonet obviously had a long term of service.

Very interesting, only five hilt grooves, not six !
A skilled collector´s mate told me, it´s, for sure, a refurbished part, an overhaul.

He also told me, the black dye, (rust prevention), upon the butt plate and peen is an indication for an overhaul on an US military base in Japan or, a manufacturing in the 50´s.
    Somebody can confirm ?

    His personal point of view:
An overhaul in, or, for South Korea during, or, on occasion the Korean War.

    My personal point of view:
I do not think, „Bubba“ made this !

    Any, further, opinions ?

    Thx. in advance,
    R.

The tip of the scabbard was broken, and, glued.

    Hello,

this is guaranteed to be an overhaul.

The latch plate was removed, new leather rings were inserted and the latch plate was then riveted again. You can see that clearly on the Peen. Then 5 instead of 6 grooves were cut into the leather rings.
Interestingly, a plastic spacer has probably been reused at the bottom of the guard.

The latch plate probably also got new rivets for the holders. In addition, the latch plate was painted black for rust protection.

This revision shows clear parallels to the wooden and rubber handle variants, which are said to have been made from 1948 in the bases in the Philippines (Subic Bay) or Japan (83d Ordnance Battalion, Okinawa).

In my opinion, a revision after WWII in or for South Korea.

The problem lay in the climatic conditions.
The leather was moldy and the metal under it began to rust. This made it necessary to replace the leather. At the same time, they began to look for alternatives to leather.

The leather may have been treated with an anti-mold agent.

    Hi,

received a bayonet mount for the US Carbine cal .30 M1.
Two other accessories were also included in the package.
One looks like a rifle sight, the other looks like some kind of wrench to attach an additional device to the carbine, possibly a launch cup for a rifle grenade device?

    Thx., in advance,
    R.
