    It would be hard to say where this was made , maybe on ship . All depends on where his grandfather served . If his other items are Japanese I would say made on ship or in a machine shop at an airfield etc . I live near a steel plant , now closed , and you would see hand made knives often years ago . Many were made from the steel cutting blades once the were dull or broken . Old files are often used for theater made knives .

    its really hard to judge value on these because it really depends on whose looking at it and their taste in knives
