23rd infantry battalion helmet mk2 (NZ?)

Hey all,

I picked this up a few months ago and have not been able to ID. Grey overpainted mk2 with a pencil drawing of a shamrock with what looks to be (not 100% sure) "23RD INF BATT".

There's also a number painted on the underside of the brim. The liner looks to have been replaced.

Any ideas and thoughts? I couldn't find much about any 23rd infantry battalions with the exception of a NZ battalion. Even then, info is slim.

Any and all help will be welcomed!
