Can't seem to find this one anywhere, but it looks similar to the later General Services Badge worn. I think most of the earlier badges were made from white metal.

Re: British coat of arms. Helmet plate?
I have looked through a few references for this and can't find anything definite. What fitting does it have on the back? Helmet plates (and shako plates) usually have a sort of long lug, in order to go through the cork of the helmet.

Welcome to the forum
This is just a shot in the dark.
I am thinking the plate hasn’t got a good curve on it to belong to a hat, I was thinking a drum or door or something.
As I say a shot in the dark.

Re: British coat of arms. Helmet plate?
Hi guys, thank you for the suggestions. It doesn't have any way of fixing to a helmet that i can see (no holes or lugs)
Does the lion on top of the crown give us a time period?
It also looks as though it may have been flattened out, maybe?
Underneath the crest it has a kind of flattened out leaf in the centre and a rose (maybe) on the left side and a thistle on the right

To Stuka, It is very similiar to the one you posted except for the lion on top of the crown and some piercing around the design on the bottom of mine.
I'd say they are the same but one is later or earlier.
To Stug, it doesn't look like anything has broken off it at any stage.
I've scoured the net and found nothing on it so still hoping someone knows what it is.
