Article about: A bit battered & bruised, but this Mk1* looks to be an early one. Rimless, Mk1 liner dated 1937 & made by HELMETS Ltd, being the first year they made Mk1 liners. Mk1 chin strap lugs
Looking at the paint, and the rivets used on the chin strap lugs, I wonder if this helmet has been refurbished post war by one of the many Countries who used these helmets.
Here's a similar refurb', Greek post war used SA Mk2 with 1944 dated chin strap lugs.
Thought I would add this one to this great thread. Was a carboot sale find around 10 years ago and is one of my favourite helmets. It's a bit rough, but has a lot of character!
Canadian engineers flash, named to a Paul Belisle, service number pencilled inside (but hard to read), and Canada scratched across the front.
If anyone is able to search Canadian Service records, please let me know. Many thanks.
This is a fantastic thread! Thank you so much to all the contributors!
I have a question that I hope one of you can answer. Does anyone know what the layer above the rubber pad is on these early Mk I liners? I sure hope it is not asbestos like the WWI Brodie Helmets...
