This one is out of focus unfortunately, but you can still see how uneven the top of this early SA chinstrap bale was made.

This was one of 3 SA helmets that turned up at Beltring some years ago. I had forgotten I still had the photos. Improvised flap, but original IMO. Note also the anti-gas goggles inside.
