What do you estimate the size of those numbers?
I think they are too small for a US heat stamp...

can only see them partially, had to fill in the gaps on my own
also, in person it is way easier to see than on camera so it was hard to really see them when drawing on phone without any touchscreen pens
now it might be a longshot, this, they might not even be numbers at all but just a .. coincidental combination of dents i guess, but i can in person really find a 6, a 2 and a 5 in order with the top of another number (i guess, could be something else) behind it

Question; the bales and rim, are they magnetic?

Yes, they are indeed
though to add to that, their magnetic strength isn't really strong but it could've faded over time
chin straps deffo not US, wrong weave!
I've never owned a M1 Euro clone but this helmet is clearly not US made outright! as stated the shell is far not shaped like any US made one! really sticks out like dog's balls!
anyway my guess it's a Mle51 Belgian, I'm not expert on clones though!

Looks Belgian to me. I'm guessing the squares of missing paint on the side is where the belgian flag decal was removed. I don't believe any US manufactured rear seam helmets had stainless steal rims.
