Article about: Hello, is there anyone who could help me with info about Australian production of Service Caps for lowerranking servicemen of the Dutch Eastindies Army during ww2 under McArthur present in A

Here you see a uniformjacket (blouse) made by Wardrop Melbourne for servicemen of the wellknown ML-KNIL (Militaire Luchtvaart Koninklijk Nederlands-Indisch Leger), a sort of Army Airforce, which became lateron fully selfsupporting.
Nice to see the Stokes-made buttions with Dutch lion and crown, the Stokes/Luke made propellor (which allready was in use before war broke out) and the label with "Netherlands-Indies" His rank was Leuitennant 1st Class !
By the way: I am allways interested to obtain such so if you have something to offer ?
Regards,
Polly

Hey Polly I'd love to see more detail on your jacket!
Here's a picture of one of my uncle's during the time there. I can't give more information as he is long past.

Nice example of a Service Cap for this kind of uniform:
The wearer is a highranking officer because he has a black cloth on gold
The Cap belonging to the jacket would have had only black with woven "W = Queen Wilhelmina" in it
(also for subaltern officers)
Made by Johnson Brot. Sydney

Hi Rene,
yes this is the so-called "tijgerpak" a camo originally a take-over from the US soldiers on Neth. New-Guines (Biak, Samsafor, Hollandia) and during the actions on Java later also from Dutch fabrication. Was your uncle a Dutch soldier (Vrijwilliger/Dienstplichtig) from the Koninklijke Landmacht ?

Most of the time they were wearing a hbt-short brim cap with Australian/English helmet.
Here the basic starts for coming uniform of the Dutch Forces (American style uniform with English webbing)
There lots of very large pictures available on Dutch sites so if you want to inform yourself, give it a try

Polly

Hi René,
a mannekin with same uniform:
Please do recognise that KL (Koninklijke Landmacht) is a different Army as KNIL (koninklijk Nederlands-Indisch Leger)
