1940 dated item by Gelfer of Glasgow. It has seen some limited wear and the tartan patch which is backed by the darker Government Tartan (No42) as used by the Black Watch and the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders is quite bright and lightly faded. The backing of the tartan pack is not a particularly common early feature and together with the very light wear suggests to me that this was worn shortly after the war by a short term National Service soldier.

It is a good comparison for my early officers private purchase example which I have previously shown and highlights the difference in quality and general cut etc.
