The Field Service cap, also known as the Universal Field Service cap was introduced for the NZ Defence Forces in 1938. They were made in New Zealand and were commonly used in the early part of WW2, during Greece, Crete,North Africa theatre, but were replaced by the General Service cap (usually Scotland made) during the Italy campaign in July 1944. However the FS cap was continued in use with NZ Forces (Army and Air Force) in the Pacific war until 1945.

Not rough Rene, "strong wool" it's called. Not like that Merino wool you Aussies grow for those soft cardies.

I picked one of these up for $20. It is in worn/salty condition. Has the soldiers name inside of the hat. Any idea of how much they are generally worth here in New Zealand? ( Your Field cap looks impeccable by the way! )

US$ or NZ$ ? Either way sounds a good price. With a name you can research service record.
