Reenactor fodder in my opinion, simply doesn't look old enough to be old and original.

    Hi there

You posted this on USMF and had well repected individuals with 40 plus years of collecting WWII US Airborne Uniforms, insignia, research and documenting said items.

I doubt if anyone here or any other forum could be more specific in helping you, they are also on other forums.

And as stated in USMF , the jacket is wartime original , the insignia has been put on after or a head scratcher.

    Take their advice.

I can only advise on the 82nd patch.

The 82nd is a 1950's/60's manufactured patch note the slight extra twill around the edge and is more polyester based thread used. Rayon thread was only used during WWII-mid 50's by the US for SSI.

So it was added on post WWII also note the poor stitching and the same colour thread used on the Flag , thats should send alarm bells. That would not stand up to combat conditions.

You asked about cut edge (USMF) below is a breakdown.

Cut edge patches were used from c1941-1966

Merrow edged (over stitched border) c 1966 onwards, to stop patches from fraying.

One example cut edge WWII 82nd Rayon thread

1950's-early 60's cut edge 82nd attached tab Polyester/Nylon thread used, not as much extra twill as yours but cut edge post War.

101st 1950's cut edge as a better example.
