45th Inf. 5th Arm. trench coat - my first uniform
Let me start off by saying that the only thing I know about uniforms, is that they are worn. If I made a mistake, have mercy and don't fret, I paid a really nice bargain on it. So at first glance, I believe I bought a sergeants Trench Coat from the 45th Infantry Division, 5th Army. It is dated 1942, and a four year service bar is on the sleeve. It looks good to me, is made from the correct material, and boy is it heavy! It's a bit small for me, but I'm not wearing it.
By the way, I've been a bit confused about this in the past, and Luftwaffe 1941 made a point to me this morning about the matter... should I be worried about moths? What kind of moths eat this and how do I prevent them from doing so?

Nice great coat and yes these are great moth food! use moth balls or cedar balls. I keep mine in sealed plastic tubs.

Very nice. Congrats on the pick up
Just a side note. Each overseas service stripe represent 6 months of service. Not one year.
"Please", Thank You" and proper manners appreciated
My greatest fear is that one day I will die and my wife will sell my guns for what I told her I paid for them

Gotcha. Thanks. Like I said, I don't know much about uniforms.

Nice coat!
For future reference the four year service stripe is a longer stripe sewn diagonally below the overseas bars but still a bit above the cuff and usually the same color and material as the rank chevrons.

The Marines and Navy service stripe is for four years. The service stripe for the Army is three years
