Article about: Hello All, With the B-14 Jacket gifted to me, I had of course been going over it. Looking at what I thought were Oversea's service bar's on the lower left sleeve near the cuff. But these str

Hey Phil
Overseas service bars were on the lower left sleeve and put on horizontal. Service stripes were on the right sleeve at an angle and I’m pretty sure only for enlisted personnel.
As for it being solid metal.. remember Army officers did whatever they wanted for the most part and sometimes followed regulations loosely. I think this guy thought the solid metal ones looked sharper so that’s what he put on.

They look like British wound stripes that he repurposed!

Phil,
I have still been trying to figure this one out, but I believe that these are overseas hash marks that were,,, as our esteemed member 08SMLE48 has pointed out repurposed British wound stripes that were used. There are so many possibilities as to why the Soldier chose to use the metal stripes, perhaps to match his other bullion insignia on the uniform which would be my bet....
Even for a Senior Enlisted man such as this jacket belongs to they also tended to stretch the regulations a bit.
I believe I also have an enlisted Ike Jacket that has the metal wound stripes in place of cloth overseas stripes, but I am not sure where in the masses of 800 uniforms where it could be...Maybe in 2020 I will downsize and find it... (hopefully, as it is my New Years resolution to downsize my collection about 95%)…

They are overseas bars, I've seen quite a few different types of metal ones used. My guess is they used what was on hand at the end of the war.

Thanks Gent's and Yes I was about to post this pic to show the normal OS stripe against the metal one and it was a close match and thought , With the bullion work done , why not put some bling in the OS stripe.
I wasn't sure on the Army hash mark or where they wore those. Thanks 08!!
Out of the 4 other AAF uniforms I have this is the first time I've seen one in metal, Very Cool!
Thanks Gents for your thoughts and info!!!

Very Nice Ed!!!
I loved that one on the first time around and still do!!!
So Ed, Are your oversea's bars attached the same way as mine?
I thought it was a interesting way to do it and now I'm curious to see how others might be attached that way.
