    PS. As an aside re the Hobsons hat you posted; I recall when I was a recruit instructor (Drill Sgt for US members) in 1985 I drove in my private car to Hobsons in Tooley St, London Bridge (that premises is long since closed) to collect 45 private purchase No1 dress hats ordered by my recruits as they were far better than the issued "bus conductor hats". These days Hobsons have the MOD contract for my old corps. Looks like the brass agreed with us in the end!!

    Found this on eBay a while back.. I don’t recall exactly what the cap was, but the important thing is that it confirms the date/code combination - B as 1922.

    Odd that there was a neat, logical system in place, at first, then it all went to rats in 1945!
