Named Vietnam War Medal Grouping to a KIA - 5th Special Forces Group (SFG), Detachment A-109
Hi All,
I thought I would share with you my recently acquired medal grouping. Two nights ago, a gentleman contacted me via an ad I put up on Craigslist for militaria wanted. He mentioned he had a WWII Purple Heart, a Bronze Star as well as some other medals that he was looking to sell.
After speaking with him over the phone, I was surprised to find that the medals were named. The gentlemen found them while cleaning out the house of someone who recently passed away (possible family member of the soldier).
We planned to meet yesterday so I could take a look at the medals and make an offer, which we did and I was able to purchase the group. However, the night prior, I decided to begin some research and found that the soldier actually served during Vietnam, not WWII, and was in the 5th SFG. Sadly, he was KIA during his service (which I had already expected considering the medals were engraved).
This is a first of many for me; first officially engraved medals to a KIA, first Bronze Star, first of any items linked to a soldier in SFG. I've turned up a lot of information from my online research and just sent away to NPRC for his service records. I also plan on obtaining replacements for the medals and awards he would have earned so I can put together a display.
Needless to say, I am proud to be the new custodian to the medal grouping of Barry Jason Goodman, who died while in service to the US…

First up is a photo I found in an online memorial. Barry, as identified in the photo, is front row, center. Wolfram Bischoff, also pictured, was killed with Barry when the mine detonated.

Great that you have found a photo of the man.
Like SteveR says above, it's good that these medals are now
in your care and will be well looked after.
I wonder if it is possible to post a photo of the medal
group on the memorial site ?
