I have not heard of asbestos being used for these items and would be safe as long as not sanded to create airborne particles even if it was asbestos. Treating them for the white mold like the white mold on leather would take care of issues. I have used the oven method many times with zero issues. Moisture, mold and sun would be your only issues for displaying them long term as a cherished item.
