Default 1939 GSR MkIV - Unusual Canister

    Hi all..

I started a new thread as I wasn't able to edit a previous post about this mask.

I've been able to upload better pictures for assessment.

The Canister has a circular vent intake on the bottom, unlike the usual side slits on the other types.

The canister strap doesn't have any stamps that I could see except for the tips of the lace.

The vent plate has the letter V, but I was under the impression that the IV only had the fabric mask cover.

    Any feedback much appreciated.

wow, never seen one with a filter, or cradle for it, like that.... I suspect it is for specialist/medical use as the canister is labelled Chloropcrin - an anti microbial and fungicidal chemical.... that is nasty for your lungs and explosive!
So I think this mask is for going into somewhere full of mouldy spores or perhaps highly infectous diseases.

I did some more digging and it got weirder. ... the filter is for a US WW2 M1XA1 respirator and should be full of Charcoal and soda lime..... and yet the mask is clearly labelled as British. ... so either this is British made for the Americans, or possibly a post war confection made of surplus bits.
