Default 1941-1942 Holster & Utility Belt

My father was a fighter pilot in VF-42 aboard USS Yorktown (CV-5) from June 1941 through the ship's loss in June 1942. He was the senior of the VF-42 pilots assigned to VF-3 for the Battle of Midway deployment and with the death of LCDR Lovelace in a deck crash the day the ship departed Pearl Harbor fleeted up to the XO job as the next senior officer in the squadron, a Lieutenant(JG).

This is the holster he wore for the entire period and a closeup of the holster flap where you can see stamped "VF 42" and his initials.

Agree. A great piece of family history there tied to a historical battle.

Assume he flew Wildcats at that point of the war?
"Please", Thank You" and proper manners appreciated

My greatest fear is that one day I will die and my wife will sell my guns for what I told her I paid for them

Thanks to all for your kind words. Actually I had dragged a box from the attic to see what could be discarded . . . obviously not that.

And, yes, Wildcats, F4F-3 up through Coral Sea and F4F-4 at Midway and in the spring & summer of 1943 in the Solomon's with VF-11.
