The handcuffs are marked on the barrel with ‘R.C.S 1941’, indicating they were made by Ruben, Craddock & Sons for wartime use in 1941. They are marked with ‘3’ which I believe indicates the size (3 being the largest) and they are also marked with a War Dept arrow and 86 or 88. I believe that this means that they were for the military police rather than civilian police, however, I have not confirmed this. Unfortunately I don’t have a key for them, although they all had the same key so I’ll just have to keep my eyes peeled for one.

Nice item. I would think you would be able to obtain a key for them.

I got a truncheon to go with my handcuffs! It’s got a couple of stamps on it, including the war arrow so I assume it was for the Military Police

I can imagine that being swung in a rowdy Cairo bar in 1941.

Nice handcuffs, although I can't help smiling when I write that! Here is an example of an earlier pair, dated 1916, of the same basic design. There is a 66 (or 99) stamped on the keys and the cuffs, which I assume is to match them up, but I have no idea how many different kinds of keys there were in circulation. I guess these were an unsavoury but necessary piece of military equipment, especially behind the lines.

It’s interesting how long this style of cuffs remained in service. I think they were of a Victorian design
