Larry, all natural finish with bark left on it. The bone cap would be hard to take if getting struck by it. Impressive how the bone was laid into the shillelaghs knob handle. The workmanship looks to of made it in a way that the bone cap would remain in place after several blows. Thank you for posting it as I'd never seen one with a bone cap.

I looked at this for years and I could not figure out what kind of bone whether be from a human or animal .

My Grandfather a a few more but more thinner and with only natural knots on the end....I took the better one as seen in the photos.

    Regards Larry

Not certain of the knob head diameter but the only human bone shaped that way is the skull. The leg socket might be the next largest size. Looks to me like the bone is the ball end of a cow, moose, deer or horses leg ball. Sure is well built. Your GGF had a good eye for this!

Did you obtain the other Shillelaghs? Hope so, they deserve a good home!
