When I moved to Wiltshire in the early 1990's I visited Police HQ in Devizes where they had a skip full of these in their wooden crates. With the fall of the Berlin Wall in 89 all Local Goverment Civil Defence was stood down for the last time and these had been withdrawn from all the local village Civil Defence reps who would operate them if the call ever came. WW2 ones are very similar but are mounted on tripods.
