Hi everybody,
got here a WW1 T-shovel with a "G" marking on the shaft.
Is there a known meaning behind?
Other side of the shaft is "US" marked as usual.
The "G" is also unclean stamped in the corner of the blade (backside).
Cheers,
Austrian

In meantime I found a discussion about the letters.
Rock Island Arsenal Dates with Letter Codes - FIELD & PERSONAL GEAR SECTION - U.S. Militaria Forum
So it was not clear back then in 2011.
Maybe someone knows more today?
I asked my buddy that has the WWI museum and he is sticking with a company designation for the manufacturer in the for what is worth category.

Thanks for your help, but I'm a little bit sceptic about it.
As per the list in the link there are also many textile products marked with a "G".
In fact I think it couldn't be the manufactruer.
Maybe the letter marking belongs to a contract?
