ww1 US cavalry.
the cover is ww1 the canteen ww2.

I believe they were produced until 1938 and replaced later by the M1941 with the re-inforced cover and the "T" strap.

So the M1917 model cover was not issued during WWII?
I imagine if there were stocks available, they were fielded and used where needed.

By the way, the cover appears to be dated 1933. It's very hard to make out with any photo.
