    Which I believe translates too;
    Chatham (Home Port) / Officers Steward, Engaged Post 1930

    Mattress cover or palliasse? Could have been stuffed with straw or whatever the R.N. were using in those years. Good find Roger. Reminds me of my Aust Army Vn era mattress cover.
